You need a book cover design that will delight your readers
It's no secret that book covers are one of the main factors in a reader's purchasing decision.
Some authors, however, make the mistake of trying to save money on this crucial step. Despite investing months, even years, in writing your text, when it comes time to add a beautiful image, an eye-catching font, an interesting design to attract readers' eyes, some writers choose to create the cover of their book on their own. own.
In Brazil this doesn't work very well. Our audience has a very trained eye for what is graphically good, so much so that book covers by Brazilian designers are often considered the best in the world. An amateur-looking book cover is a disaster for book sales.
Other writers choose to hire non-book designers. In fact, this is a very common mistake, and the result is usually book covers without personality, without the characteristic aura of a good book cover.
The language of the editorial world is quite specific and full of nuances, which go unnoticed by designers accustomed to other areas, such as magazines, catalogs, logos, leaflets, packaging, etc.
Using graphic language that is not appropriate for a book can destroy your chances of success.
The role of a good book cover
The job of a good cover artist is to translate the content of the book into images.
A good book cover is usually sober and elegant. At the same time, its role is to reveal to readers, in a non-obvious way, the personality of the work and the author's style.
There is no point in filling book covers with graphic elements to tell several things at the same time or to detail the information too much. I have seen cover artists who make this mistake.
In my opinion, the role of a book cover is not to reveal the characters' faces, trying to personify them. A good book cover conveys information subtly, without killing the fantasy that forms in the readers' minds. After all, the fun of reading a book is letting your imagination do the work without everything being ready and on a plate.
As an experienced cover artist, I have been working in this graphic line for years.
What is the process of creating book covers like with SGuerra Design?
After hiring, we'll talk about your book and what you expect from it.
You will tell me in detail about the content, main points covered, general ideas and together we will build the possible paths to be followed.
Normally our conversation will be via phone, Skype, WhatsApp audio or any online means that is easy for both of us. Because of this, there is no geographic barrier. I have clients in several states in Brazil and also in other countries. This method of mine works well and makes the entire creation and production process very smooth.
After this conversation, it’s time to produce your book cover!
After a few days, I will deliver three cover options to you, based on our conversation and the points raised.
In general, we usually close with one of three options. If adjustments are necessary, don't worry. We make the necessary adjustments.
Once this stage of creating the book cover is complete, it is time to produce the back cover and the flaps. At this point you send the texts and your author photo that will make up one of the ears. If you contracted the ISBN service with us, I will already have the barcode that will go on the back cover of the book, allowing you to sell the book.
Once this step has been approved, it is time to prepare the files for sending to the printer and finalize the work.
As you can see, it is a very simple and smooth process. Interested? Contact me via WhatsApp, phone or by clicking the button below:
Discover my portfolio of book covers
I've been creating book covers for so many years that I honestly lost count of how many I've done, some of them with the help of my team. Some works I donated to friends and often the publishers never sent copies. But I still keep many books on the shelf. Below are some works that I particularly like:
